What's a Wi-Fi Hotspot?

A Wi-Fi Hotspot is a place where you can connect to the Internet with your wireless enabled laptop. Wi-Fi Hotspots are great for catching up with your email, or browsing the web over a coffee.

You can now use your Netspace account to get Wi-Fi access at many Wi-Fi Hotspots across Australia and overseas.

What will I need?

To connect to a Wi-Fi Hotspot, your laptop will need to have wireless capability. This can be of either 802.11b or 802.11g varieties - what most current laptops will have. If your laptop doesn't have wireless built-in, you can still take advantage of Wi-Fi Hotspots by purchasing a Wireless LAN card.

To use Wi-Fi Hotspots simply activate Netspace Roaming on your account and download iPassConnect. You can do this through the MyNetspace Roaming activation tool.

Where can I connect?

iPassConnect can be used with Wi-Fi Hotspots, hotel Ethernet ports and dial up phone ports.

To view a list of all currently available iPass dial-up, wired and wireless access points, download the Netspace iPass connection software above.

What about security?

iPassConnect employs a number of sophisticated security measures for the utmost levels of privacy and protection whilst maintaining a simple connection process.

You can learn more about iPass security at www.ipass.com.au

We do our best to make sure that you are secure when using any Wi-Fi Hotspot.

Your login details are encrypted when submitted and peer-to-peer traffic is blocked, so users at the same hotspot can't directly access your computer.

But there are also things you should do to make sure you're protected:

  1. Use a personal firewall to protect your computer from unauthorised access. Windows XP and Mac OS X come with built-in firewalls but you need to make sure they are switched on.
  2. When using online banking or shopping, make sure the web site is using SSL encryption. The address will start with https and you will see a small lock appear somewhere in your web browser.
  3. If using a VPN to access your office network, make sure end-to-end encryption is used.

What if I have a problem?

You can receive technical support both within Australia and while you are overseas. You can receive online assistance via your iPassConnect client which provides a full list of troubleshooting and technical support information. Alternatively, you can contact the Netspace Technical Support team on 131 456, via email using techsupport@netspace.net.au or visit the Netspace Technical Support section of our website for details on configuring iPass and F.A.Q's
