After I posted an introduction to the Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society list, I received the following from the LOVELY Roger Hart. (Thanks again Roger!)
Burials ... a newspaper report ... Baptisms ... deTrafford Estate Map Book
"Just north of the Manchester Ship Canal about 150 yards along the road towards Patricroft bridge is the defunct Barton Wesleyan Chapel. Built in 1798 it has a grave yard front and rear, the rear grave yard is very overgrown and most of it is inaccessible, the front graveyard has been covered over. The building is up for sale and is falling into decay. Many years ago I made a copy of a "copy and original graveyard register, volume one,"(The original register up to 1837 is held at the Lancashire Record Office). Seeing your e-mail rang a bell with the name ROGERSON. The grave yard register starts in 1804 and ends in 1902 and contains some 4960 entries. "

With reference to entry 3236 - a few years ago I did some research on a page
of entries from the register just to see what I could find out from the
local newspapers, and for Adams death :-
Eccles & Patricroft Journal Saturday 13 November 1880 - ROGERSON - On the
6th. inst., at Dumplington lane, Barton, Adam Rogerson, aged 76 years.
Eccles & Patricroft Journal Saturday 13 November 1880
CHOKED AT DUMPLINGTON
On Monday last, an inquest was held at the Nags Head Hotel, Crofts Bank,
before Mr. F. Price, district coroner, and a jury, touching the decease of
Adam Rogerson, aged 76, Lostock road, Croftsbank - Mrs. Moss, wife of Mr. G.
Moss, Lostock road, Croftsbank, said deceased was her father, and resided
with her. He left the house shortly after six oclock on Saturday night
to
go to Patricroft. She did not see him again alive. - Mrs. Taylor, widow,
Dumplington lane, Barton said deceased called at her house on his way to
Patricroft. She invited him to partake of supper, consisting of bread and
meat, and whilst so engaged, she observed him suddenly become red in the
face and his head drop down. She spoke to him, but as he did not answer, she
sent for his daughter who fetched Dr. Kershaw, of Urmston, - Dr. Kershaw
deposed to having been sent for, and on his arrival found deceased dead. He
extracted a piece of meat from his throat, which in his opinion had choked
him. The jury returned a verdict of Died from suffocation.
